Overview
Description

A tappet is formed from a high-carbon steel with relatively high surface fatigue strength. This ability helps tappet to withstand with high contact stresses during compression between cam lobe and the valve. Besides, to prevent wear of tappet during its usage, the part must be heat treated to provide a uniform hardness, and consistent microstructure throughout it. If the tappet cannot be heat treated properly, other engine relate-components will be damaged dramatically. To check microstructural properties of tappet, including hardness, case depth, and retained austenite, EddyWise offers following Tappet microstructural testing solutions.

Eddy wise offers a Tappet microstructural testing system for the inspection of tappet. This is made by integration of mechanical handling together with EddyLine I eddy current testing system and a Specific Tappet Sensor. This testing system can analyze and evaluate microstructural properties of tappet after grinding operation. The test piece is loaded by a user and mounted on a mechanical fixture in the system. Then, they will be inspected and the result can be documented for further use, shown on the EddyLine I screen, and sorted into good and bad parts. Documentation can help tappet manufacturer to analysis and improve their production process. Consequently, EddyWise helps manufacture to increase their quality requirements and ppm.

EddyWise has produced a 100% automatic microstructural standing machine of the tappet. It works with EddyLine II and Specific Tappet Sensors. The test pieces are loaded automatically. They pass through Tappet sensors, and finally, sorted into good and bad parts. The result will be shown on the EddyLine II screen. Also, they are documented for the further use. Statistical data can help manufacturers to improve the quality of tappet to meet better the customer’s need.

The speed of inspection can be adapted to the production requirement of manufacturer (optional). This system can be installed directly after of the last grinding operation as a stand unit and integrated directly on the existing conveyor; accordingly, rendering the inspection station extremely compact and easy to maintain.

EddyWise designed this 100% automatic microstructural standing machine to solve of the problem of tappet inspection as much as possible to reduce the production cost sufficiently.
